FACE-IT #1

NFS

#119
I have been wanting to have a go at portraits for quite a while now.
I've been especially inspired by Linda Popple's wonderful 'Face'
portraits and Nora MacPhail's superb watercolour portraits.
So, I'm changing things up a bit, and will be throwing myself
into painting from actual Mugshots, and willing Family and Friends.
My intention is to paint my impression of the subject and not a
photographic likeness. I want to push the boundaries. I want to work
on different coloured grounds. I want to apply the paint thinly and thickly
but efficiantly..... I'll be using small boards 4''x4'' and I may go backwards
before I go forwards, but I'm sure going to enjoy the journey!
Here we go.....the start of my 'Face-it' series.

PS.  I will still be throwing in the odd still life etc.

Wow! Your first face is amazing!! Great job with the expression. Another great site for mug shots is Karin Jurick's Busted. Take a look. You'll enjoy it and she is very inspirational!
Thanks for the shout out!! :-)

Wow! I love it when artist push their comfort zones. I can't wait and will be watching to see where you go with this. I really love 4x4's it is just something dynamic about small.
