NOTAN #1. A LA PLAGE

#219

I have been wanting to paint some really large 'NOTAN' paintings for quite a while now. This image is from one of my own photos. I cropped and tweaked it until I was satisfied with the composition. I then gridded up a canvas and drew on my shapes using a charcoal pencil. I just used grey acrylic paint and left the white of the canvas untouched. It was so enjoyable to see the image gradually appear from the positive and negative shapes.......... There are more to come!

I did paint a small 7"x5" of this same subject . Post #173

This is a good idea Helen...I am inspired by this and must do some myself! I went back and had a look at the small painting... I am a fan of high tonal key paintings!

Wow Helen! I love this! I hadn't been aware of what this style was called until I read your post. You've done a great job with it. It has inspired me to try my own sometime.
